A couple of years ago, I found facebook. It's a social website that helps you reconnect with people you haven't seen or talked to for years. Of course the first people I tried "finding" were some friends from high school. I think my first two "friends" on facebook were Lois (Dunham) Anderson and Penny (Larson) Behrand. So, when I made my plans for my Portland trip, I decided that I HAD to try to see these two. There were a few others that I wanted to see that still live in the Portland area, but I wasnt' able to connect with them.
Jann Poff was another that I wanted to try to see. Jann and I lived next door to each other for many years. Mostly during elementary school. Then she and I met up again in high school and then went to BYU together. So, it's fair to say we go WAYYY back. Unfortunately, I didn't think about taking a picture after lunch of the two of us. It was a really fun lunch and I'm glad that we were able to re-connect after so many years.
The first night I was in Portland, I went back to Beaverton High School to watch Penny's daughter cheer at a girls basketball game. It was SOOOO much fun to see Penny again. We sat and talked and talked through the whole game. Neither one of us knew what was happening with the game. All of a sudden the buzzer sounded and the game was over. We TOTALLY missed the game. After the game was over I wanted to see if we could walk through the halls of BHS. Fortunately, they didn't have any of the gates down so we walked all over the school. We walked past where my locker was and the choir room, drama room, children's pre-school, etc. It brought back sooooo many memories.
Sunday afternoon was my lunch with Lois. We had such a good talk. I honestly know why these two ladies were so influential during my high school years. They were both such good friends to me. Lois and I still have a lot of stuff in common. We realized we have kids about the same ages and involved with some of the same activities. We talked forever. The poor waiter kept coming by and asking us if we were "ok". After about the 4th time, we told him that we were fine and that he didn't need to keep asking. We just hadn't seen each other in over 20 years, so we were catching up. Catch up we did.
